Elestor wins Hydrogen Innovation Award 2026

We are proud to share that Elestor has won the Hydrogen Innovation Award 2026 for our hydrogen–iron flow battery technology.

The award was presented during the Dutch Hydrogen Days at Zero Emission | Ecomobiel in Den Bosch. The jury recognized Elestor’s technology as a strong and forward-looking innovation with the potential to fulfil an important system role in an energy system increasingly dominated by solar and wind.

Elestor’s hydrogen–iron flow battery is designed for large-scale, long-duration energy storage. By scaling power and storage capacity independently, the system can be tailored to applications that require electricity to be stored for many hours or days.

A key element highlighted by the jury is the potential connection between electricity storage and hydrogen infrastructure. In addition to operating as a closed-loop battery, the technology can be connected to hydrogen infrastructure, allowing hydrogen to act as an external buffer and potentially reducing the need for dedicated local hydrogen storage.

The jury also highlighted the potential for applications with utilities, industrial clusters and hydrogen projects, where the technology can support functions such as renewable energy storage, congestion management and flexibility services.

The award was presented by Lijs Groenendaal of NLHydrogen to Dries Kleuskens from Elestor.
