Elestor has a job opportunity for a Stack Testing Operator
Do you want to power the energy transition? Are you a team player; ready to take on varied and complex challenges?
We are proud to be a fast-growing and innovative company in The Netherlands, developing breakthrough hydrogen-iron flow battery technology. Elestor offers exciting and competitive career opportunities with plenty of scope for both personal and professional development.
Position
As a Stack Testing Operator at Elestor, you will be part of the Stack R&D Team, supporting the development of our hydrogen-iron battery technology through practical testing of electrochemical cells and stacks in the laboratory and pilot field.
This is a hands-on, operational technical position, particularly suited to candidates with a vocational education background (Dutch MBO level 4 or equivalent). Your primary focus will be on practical laboratory work, including assembling, operating and disassembling cells and test setups, conducting electrochemical tests according to established procedures, and performing post-mortem investigations and ex-situ testing.
The position combines practical testing activities with desk-based tasks, such as gathering, processing and plotting test data, documenting results and contributing to test plans and technical reports. Hands-on activities will account for the majority of your daily work, while data analysis and reporting support the testing process.
You will work closely with other members of the Stack R&D Team, communicating test results and findings to relevant stakeholders. This is primarily an execution-focused technical role rather than an academic research position, where practical skills, accuracy, and a hands-on mindset are more important than advanced academic qualifications.
You will report to the Stack Architect.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Prepare, set up and perform electrochemical tests on cells and stacks according to established test procedures and test plans.
- Assemble, operate, maintain and disassemble cells, stacks and laboratory test setups.
- Conduct post-mortem inspections and investigations on tested cells and stacks.
- Perform routine characterization measurements using laboratory equipment and analytical techniques (e.g. SEM/EDX, CV, XRD, UV-Vis, FTIR, etc.).
- Collect, process and record test data, ensuring accurate documentation of test conditions, observations and results.
- Support the preparation of test plans, technical reports and presentations.
- Identify and report technical issues, unexpected results and opportunities to improve testing procedures and facilities.
- Contribute to the implementation of practical improvements in testing methods and equipment.
- Support engineers and researchers with hands-on testing activities and share practical observations and experience.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute practical feedback and suggestions based on daily testing activities.
Profile
The ideal candidate has a technical vocational education background (Dutch MBO level 4 or equivalent) and enjoys practical, hands-on work in a laboratory environment. You have a good understanding of electrochemical cells and their operation, combined with hands-on experience in a lab environment.
You enjoy working with technical equipment, assembling and operating test setups, performing measurements, and troubleshooting technical issues. You work accurately and systematically, follow established testing procedures, and take responsibility for delivering reliable, high-quality test results.
You are practical, curious and solution-oriented. You can work independently on assigned testing activities, recognize unexpected results or technical problems, and actively contribute ideas for improving testing methods and equipment.
You are comfortable recording and processing test data, documenting observations, and communicating your findings clearly to colleagues. You can organize and prioritize your daily activities, work effectively with engineers and researchers, and contribute to a safe, efficient and well-organized laboratory environment.
Above all, you prefer practical technical work over desk-based research and enjoy turning technical challenges into working solutions.
Education, Skills and Experience
- Completed technical vocational education (Dutch MBO level 4 or equivalent), preferably in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, process technology, chemistry or a related technical field.
- At least 2 years of relevant hands-on experience in a technical, industrial or laboratory environment.
- Ability to independently prepare, perform and document tests based on defined objectives and established procedures.
- Experience with electrochemical systems, such as batteries, fuel cells or electrolyzers, is a strong advantage.
- Experience with chemical or electrochemical laboratory testing and characterization techniques is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy, safety and reliable test results.
- A practical, hands-on and solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to identify technical problems and suggest improvements.
- Well-organized, proactive and capable of independently managing assigned testing activities.
- Good communication skills and the ability to share practical findings with colleagues from different technical backgrounds.
- Interest in clean energy, hydrogen and electrical energy storage technologies.
- Good command of English, both written and spoken.
- Experience working in an international environment is a plus.
Elestor's Mission & Relevance
Imagine a world without polluting power plants, powered purely by clean electricity…
This world is closer than you think. The sun and the wind are powerful enough, and so are the technologies to harvest their energy. However, possibilities to store renewable energy in a sustainable and cost-effective way are lacking; Long-Duration Energy Storage (LDES) is ‘’the missing link’’ in the energy transition.
It is Elestor’s mission to cut the costs of electricity storage. We develop large-scale, competitive H2-FE storage technologies that are carbon neutral and durable, and hereby unifying the interests of the planet, people, and business profitability.
