Elestor has a job opportunity for a: Junior Researcher
Do you want to power the energy transition? Are you a team player; ready to take on varied and complex challenges?
We are proud to be a fast-growing and innovative company in The Netherlands, developing breakthrough hydrogen-iron flow battery technology. Elestor offers exciting and competitive career opportunities with plenty of scope for both personal and professional development.
Position
As a Junior researcher at Elestor you will be part of the team responsible for further developing the knowledge of the Hydrogen-Iron battery and it’s chemistry. Specifically addressing the H2-Fe electrochemistry in addition to investigating membranes, electrodes, and the electrolyte. Your role includes performing technology related in-situ and ex-situ tests. In addition to that, you are expected to provide analysis for the acquired data, interpret the testing results, and conclude or suggest further testing steps.
Your role will be a combination of behind the desk work (doing research, documentation, planning, presentations, contacting suppliers, etc.) and laboratory work (cell assembly, operation, disassembly, and post mortem investigation, ex-situ testing, setup building, etc.). Working from the office is expected for the majority of the days in the week while work from home is a possibility when applicable. You report directly to the stack architect.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Perform stack-related lab tests and experiments (including making test plans, setup development, etc).
- Perform data analysis, interpretation and give advice about the results of (ex-situ and in situ) lab tests
- Provide critical opinion and share expertise related to electrochemical testing, cell operation, and data analysis
- Propose new tests and approaches for cell electrochemical testing, performance improvement, and lifetime extension
- Develop setups for component characterization of the MEA and electrolyte optimization studies
- Assist in the development and choice of MEA components
- Perform post-mortem investigations on cells and stacks
- Request and help organize meetings with suppliers for components/services procurement and provision
- Support other team members with fulfilling their stack related activities
Profile
You are an electrochemistry researcher with a strong technical foundation and a passion in advancing innovative energy technologies. You have experience in electrochemical research and enjoy combining analytical work with hands-on laboratory experiments.
Your primary focus is on planning and executing electrochemical stack tests, ensuring high-quality experimental data, and analyzing results to support technology development. You investigate technical challenges and translate experimental findings into practical insights for future development.
You work in a structured and organized way, balancing multiple activities while maintaining focus on priorities. You communicate effectively with colleagues from different disciplines, share your findings clearly, and contribute to improving the understanding and performance of the stack.
Education, Skills and Experience
- MSc or PhD in engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical or electrochemistry)
- 1-2 years of experience in testing electrochemical stacks
- In depth understanding of the functioning of an electrochemical cell
- Ability to clearly communicate, elaborate and efficiently collaborate with colleagues from various backgrounds
- Experience in contacting suppliers and exploring possible market solutions
- Ability to critically analyse and judge, test plans, testing data, suggestions and technical proposals
- Fluency in English
Elestor's Mission & Relevance
Imagine a world without polluting power plants, powered purely by clean electricity…
This world is closer than you think. The sun and the wind are powerful enough, and so are the technologies to harvest their energy. However, possibilities to store renewable energy (sustainably, cost-effectively) are lacking; Long-Duration Electricity Storage (LDES) is ‘’the missing link’’ in the energy transition.
It is Elestor’s mission to cut the cost of electricity storage. We develop large-scale, cost-effective H2-FE storage technologies technologies that are carbon neutral and durable, thereby unifying the interests of the planet, people, and business profitability.
